Birdog : A Reliable Tool for Finding Satellites

ADVERTISEMENTS

When installing satellite dishes, you need to accurately point them to a geostationary satellite that is often really elusive. Satellite finders help make the task easier but sometimes it is not enough. If you ever get tired of looking for that elusive satellite then here comes the answer to your problems, the birddog meter. The birdog meter is a known and tested brand for this.

Most satellite meters or finders simply inform you that you have connected to a satellite; birddog, however, can do better than that. It is not just a combination of diode-meter but also a receiver and decoder that can pick up a satellite signal and absolutely spot the satellite you are linked on. You do not need to guess if you have identified the right satellite.

A birddog is a device that traces the location of the geostationary satellites in the sky and aims the receiver dish accordingly so it can receive the required signal. These types of meters also set up the strength and the signal-noise ratio, which are both useful in verifying the quality of the satellite signal you are getting.

Birddogs are made for field use and involves the following simple instructions for use:

1. It is important to charge the meter batteries overnight since it uses an internal battery to power its operation. Recharging should be regularly done on a three-week interval during normal use.

2. Connect the birddog to the LNBF cable of the satellite’s antenna using RG-6, which is a coaxial line that has appropriate ends for connecting to a satellite receiver. Turn it on and aim the satellite antenna in the general target area of the satellite you need.

3. Choose the satellite you want from the provided menu list.

4. Experiment with and try several satellite dish positioning until birddog finds the targeted satellite and proceed to fine-tuning the alignment of the dish to maximize the signal strength and its quality. After achieving that, firmly fasten the positioning of the dish.

5. You can then bring the satellite list up-to-date by connecting it to your computer.

Birddog is the best course in finding the satellite signal you want and in maximizing the strength and quality of that signal for a more enjoyable experience with your satellite TV.
